    Cats

I'm a cat person.  I admit it.  I've always liked cats. I learned fairly quickly that cats and fly- and jig-tying do not always go together.  Anything that dangles/bounces/jiggles, I already had that figured out.  Have to be careful about leaving tied flies and jigs out.  I've gotten good about...

Painted some jigs for the Tie-In tonight

Nothing special.  Just a couple each of the colors that I didn't already have painted up.  I got a couple new colors this past month, the Bright Green and Brown, both from Netcraft.

Tied up some more Marabou Skunks for a buddy

I know his favorite colors are Royal Blue and White.  I just happened to have some heads painted up with Blue Sapphire.  I had to do a custom dye job on some White Marabou to get this shade of blue; I haven't been able to find any at the local fly shops around me. These are 1/16 Pillhead...

    Mike Iaconelli likes Hair Jigs

I've read an article before from In-Fisherman that stated he bought a bunch of custom hair jigs at a show.  That article was one of the driving forces behind my start in jig-tying. Here's a nice video about what he does: https://mikeiaconelli.com/bass_fishing_video.php?id=VQgeMllpgNM I...

    Stonefly Nymphs

I found a video on youtube for a "Wired Stonefly Nymph".  They look great!  Since we have them here, I've been wanting to tie some up, and finally got around to it. This first pic is some I tied on TMC 200R size 16 hooks.  You can actually see how I get better as I tie them, as the first is on...

    Fran Betters' "The Usual"

Did some of these, size 14.  The pattern is really simple.  Red thread, and the tail, wing, and body is all Snowshoe rabbit.

    Some recent ties

I did up some more Lightning Bugs.  I like to do these both as a nymph, and as a soft hackle.  My "standard" color pattern is Magnum Saltwater Pearl flashabou for the abdomen, counter-wrapped with green wire.  I've been wanting to do a Purple version, as I hear 'gills will absolutely slay...

    Back Online!

We moved to Michigan on the 1st of Nov. Arrived safe and sound, but tired, on the 2nd. I started working on the 3rd. I still need to get a MI fishing license. And ice fishing gear. I may end up waiting until March for the license, and try to catch some ice fishing stuff on clearance. I'll...

    Blue w/ glitter - Take 2

Much better results this time. Group shot: White base coat, Dragonfly over that, then tapped on the clear/multi-glitter over that. Probably should have left the darker colors out of the mix. Oh well, live and learn. Might have to mix up another clear/multi-glitter mix using the lighter...

    Cat's Meow with hourglass eyes

I tied up some Cat's Meows, but with some 1/36th oz hourglass eyes instead of beadchain. Still on a size 12 Scud hook (I like that hook size/shape for 'gills). Red thread on the head to denote the heavy weight. And yes, one of them is doing a headstand. They ALL do that, readily. I'm...
