    More teaser flies

I like bugger-style teaser flies for the upper loop on a dual hook setup for crappie. They don't foul as much as two weighted jigs when casting a float. I sat down today meaning to tie one to replace one I lost to a snag on my last trip, and this was the result. Ever start tying and you just...

    Which Pro-Tec colors are translucent?

I have some watermelon red flake and the sapphire powder paint. I really like the way they look over a bright shiny new leadhead. Kind of like tinted silvery scales on my minnow heads. What other colors have this effect?

    Let's talk about nail polish

Come on guys, it's time to get in touch with your girly side. Seriously, even though I'm a lady, I never got into the whole makeup thing. I never bought nail polish until I started painting jigs. I mainly use nail polish for touching up powder paint jobs that didn't cover the head completely...

    Ultra rabbits

I tied up these 1/8 ounce ultra minnows with crosscut zonker strips. Planning on using them for smallmouth and larger crappie. Think they have a good chance of getting bit?

    Idaho kitties

After getting skunked at the big reservoir fishing for crappie the week before, I went out fishing for cats at one of the local ponds. This pond is so small and shallow it warms up faster than the other bodies of water around here so I've had good luck there during the early season in the past...

    Swap 11?

When is it going to start? Swap 10 wrapped up more than two weeks ago.

    Whiting Fly Tyer's Variety Pack

Picked up one of these at Cabela's under the 30% off sale. It's basically all the bits of odd pieces left over after they trim the chicken hides for selling individual feather types. It didn't have any of the long thin feathers of course, but there's lots of useable stuff. My pack had a lot of...

Cabela's 30% off all fly tying materials

Got the weekly mailer for my local Cabela's yesterday. They are having a 30% off sale on materials starting the 15th. Doesn't cover tools, vises or kits but you could save a lot on the more expensive feathers and stuff. Going to pick up a few 1 ounce packs of marabou. I assume the sale will...

    Bunnybou hides

I got a good deal on a dozen Rex rabbit hides. These are the hides they use to make bunnybou strips. The hides are fully tanned and the fur is dyed black. They have been squared off to approximately 6" x 12". I don't actually have the hides yet, and it will probably be a few weeks until they...

    My niece

I don't have any kids of my own, but my brother has a daughter named Leila. My mom forwarded me some pictures of her that my brother sent. She'll be 1 this August. Neither of her parents fish, so it's up to me to make her into a fishing gal.

    Bunnybou and double bunny jigs

The top jig is bunnybou, which I got in the CDC swap box. It's got a bit shorter hair than regular rabbit, but no guard hairs. The movement is nice, but I'm not sure it justifies the extra cost. This stuff costs about $1 more than a pack of four strips, and you only get two strips in the pack...

    Twisted cactus chenille

I tied this little guy with a combination of black and chartreuse cactus chenille. It came out with an interesting mottled appearance. I think the crappie and smallmouth will like it. Love the walleye heads with eye sockets, even if buying eyes has gotten kind of expensive.

    Bunny!

Got my crosscut rabbit hides in the mail! With 48 strips per pack, I see lots of bunny jigs in the future. Already had a bunch of white and black, so I focused on colors.

    Peeved at the postal service

I sold a hand painted resin dragon figurine for $200 on eBay. It's a limited edition figure from a line that was only available in Europe. There were only 2500 made, and production ended about 8 years ago. Since it had to be specially imported from England, there's probably only a handful of...

    Simple buggers

I usually use a double jig setup when fishing for perch and crappie. I tie a loop knot for the upper jig so I can change colors easily. It works, but I've never been happy with the way it makes the jig ride in the water, since the eye on most jigs is parallel to the hook shank. Plus the weight...

    Glow overcoat questions

I picked up some Pro-Tec super glow green at Cabela's on a whim. The glow colors need a base coat or else they turn out dark. I have white and green chartreuse. Which would make the best base coat? Should I apply the second coat before curing, or cure the base coat and then cure again for the...

If you have a Cabela's nearby...

They have a bunch of stuff on clearance. Went back to my local store to pick up an item I'd ordered off the web site and browsed through the clearance rack. I picked up two 125 yard spools of Fireline Original Fused for $7.50 and found out at the register that Berkley has a mail-in rebate going...

    Powder paint deal?

We lost all the posts in the best deal thread. I remember someone saying they were living up some colors from CS and was wondering what the status was?

Think I've finally figured out thread necks

I usually tie thread necks with rabbit strips, and I've always had issues with lumpy, misshapen necks. I think it was due to trying to cut the strip too close to the head. I backed off a little bit and was able to get nice neat wraps on these. I use crosscut strips, but the bottom one also has a...

    Trying out my new material

Finally got a chance to sit down and tie with my new fur. The top one has a palmered mink body and arctic fox tail. The rest have various types of chenille and the dark gray fox for tails. Let me know what you think.
