I have recently taken a jump into fly tying and am curious to hear others views on tying and patterns. Many books on tying show specific standards for fly patterns. My first pattern I am trying to master is a black ghost. As a streamer there are standards for length of tail, length of wing...
I have been considering a serious vise for fly tying. While I shop and compare different styles / brands I came across this - http://www.jvice.com/pages/ordering.html I really like the looks of this vise. The cost is WAY to high to justify the expense. I do love the 'engineering & mechanical look'.
More walleye goodies, this time the jigs are 5/8 Barumba heads.
Emerald Shiner, Hair: green, green chartreuse, white bucktail. Thread green size A

Is there a chart or site that would list compatible hooks? Lets say I have a mold that uses Mustad 32759 jig hook. I would like to try Mustad in a sickle style with a comparable wire size and jig eye (size/bend). OR I have the same Mustad hook but would like to try something from another...
Aside from tiny jigs and bucktail streamers I have never tried tying an actual fly pattern. This is my fifth attempt of the evening at a Black Ghost. I didnt have any Jungle Cock but used some black hackle tips in their place.
What do you'all think?
This is a great jig for panfish during the summer and hard water seasons.
Gold plated head, gold chenille, red turkey feather, ginger hackle
Gold plated head, tri color flash chenille, red turkey feather, purple hackle
Some 1/60 Ball Head, squirrel and Calf tails.
Yummy! 1/32 marabou, 1/32 calf, 1/60 calf & 1/90 calf. Getting ready for spring sales. Looks like the 1/90 are a little thin.
Maybe I tie under a rock or just that I have a few years worth of thread on hand but I just found out while looking to place an order that Gudebrod is no longer produced.
Does anyone have a recomendation for a quality nylon size A thread that would be on the same size spool as the 950 yrd Gudebrod?
Did well this past spring catching crappie on 1/16 jig with plain blue chenille bodies. I sat down this morning to add a few to my tackle box with some sparkle.
Does anyone here know where I could find Epoxy paint in flo colors?
Flo Yellow
Flo Green
Flo Red
I have done a lot of searching over the years but am hoping to get lucky with posting the question here.

Its nice to have found this site - lots of good stuff!
Im a second generation tier and have been tying jigs since I could remember. Working with dad my first job as a young'un (early 70s) was stirring the bucktails to keep the dye even throughout the pot. Its much easier now to pick up a tackle...
