I upload mine to photobucket then just copy the link for forums and it puts it right in, but you can load them right from your computer, you'll have to click on the NEW REPLY button so the feature comes up.

Looks like you have the basic set up correct. Now,it's time for a little refinement, you came to the right place.I would start with just cutting your tail material with a pair of scissors and holding it tight behind the head until it is tight with no overhang going over the head.Placeing your thread wraps closer together,up against each other. Then you are on your way.You want your thread neck to look something like this.

That is a start! Keep the thread wraps tight and the clump of hair you cut as even as possible as you are tying it to the hook shank. Just takes time and practice but those will catch a few fish for you.

Look at the Buck Tail Jig in the Tutorial section that CrappieHappy posted. It is a slightly different way to do it, but either way works. Just have to find which way you are more comfortable with.

Looks like you are using Kip (calf) tail on those...... i have tied for many years and still have trouble keeping kip tail nice and straight, it can be a tough material to work with. Bucktail might be a little easier to work with as you are learning the basics and Marabou feathers are about the easiest to work with. ;)

Welcome aboard from South Carolina and welcome to the world of tying :)
Thanks for posting pics of your first jigs. You are over the hardest ones you will tie and now it's tying over and over and becoming better with each jig.

Now that I see your pics I have one question - are you tying on jigs with collars??? On the one I see the barb on the collar sticking out. You may want to cut the collars off and tie on the shank of the hook - it'll make it a little easier to control the thread and your materials.

If the kip tail is a real pain you can use calf body hair instead - it ties in alot easier.

The ones you have tied will catch fish - but it's gonna be practice and practice somemore and it does get better believe me - everyone here was new to tying and I've seen some of the gang here who were new to it and they are now tying some really amazing jigs!!!!

Again welcome to the madness - if you need advice just ask and we'll all help you out!!! That's one of the things that's totally amazing about this place!!!!!

Thanks again, it is always good to have backup. One other thing I am still sorting out is where I want to get my supplies from. Still researching and looking at different sites to find the best prices.
