Superstition ain't so bad as long - but only if you catch fish!

It probably was a Chiquita. Speaking of marshmallows a fellow here swears by using only the green mallows out of the fruity flavored ones for trout. He’s got a lifetime of fishing under his belt and has tried probably anything and everything you can think of.

Superstition ain't so bad as long - but only if you catch fish!

I had an experience when I was a kid (7 or 8) at a local lake. It was a church picnic and I wanted to take my fishing pole and tackle with me. Dad didn’t want to mess with all of that so I got to take just my pole and one lure. The lure was a simple blade with a treble hook and that was it...

lighter jigs/smaller lures can make a difference in cold water

Ugh, I hate suckers! When my friend and I go down to the river for steelhead it seems like one of us always catches one and they always swallow the hook. It’s like pulling up an old tire. My friend once pitched one up on the shore about 40 ft away with the others that people had tossed there. An...

    Z-man Elaztech

Fellow here uses a pearl-ish clear, dark fleck curly tail with good success. We always had the best success with just a jig and a night crawler. That’s #1 than the curly grubs. I haven’t been fishing for so dang long don’t know if I remember how.

Very tasty, just like perch, lighter flavor than bass. The slot sizes are the best to me. The bigger one like 23-25 aren’t as good, not bad just not as good.

lighter jigs/smaller lures can make a difference in cold water

I’ll add to your findings that some species seem to have a gang mentality while others are more like loners and like humans that seems to change with age. Kinda like teenagers and old men. Teens, “we’re gonna take on the world”. Old men, “get off my lawn”. One fall my wife and I once ran across...

lighter jigs/smaller lures can make a difference in cold water

Pretty little, with the distortion of the water they looked about the size of your palm. I don’t think they could have gotten hooked very easily and that’s why I chose the size I did and that’s all I had with me at the time. I didn’t really want to catch any, just checking the response.

lighter jigs/smaller lures can make a difference in cold water

Great write up. We have a fellow here that has a pond that has bass, crappy and a few sunfish. He lets kids and retired people fish there and that’s where I test lures because of the dock and clear water. What’s funny is he would feed the crappy by hand so anytime you walked to the edge of the...

    Celebration of Life trip

Wow those are some mighty fine fish and nice sized smallies. They should have put up a good fight.

I don’t tie very much lately but would like to purchase a small piece from you to try.

    Victory Jig Hooks

I ran across that with some of those original Matzu’s. Some would bend like butter and others would snap like glass. I don’t know how those companies temper hooks but it appears that with some it’s not an even process.

When do you fish a jig?

Very nice and a nice smallie

    Tin

Tin will actually fill cavities better. It’s usually added to lead to improve pour ability and it has a slight hardening effect. Pretty spendy to fill a #20 pot with tin. Linotype has high tin as well as lead and antimony. Is lighter than straight lead but much harder. If you drop your jugs out...

    Changes?

Glad to see many of the same tribe still here. I don’t get here as much as I’d like to either. My boats getting cobwebs on it from sitting so long. Just seems like something is always getting in the way.
