Where would be a good place to store my lead ingots?

I store my lead in my dad's garage and it takes up some room(I have 300+lbs). My dad has a shed but I don't want the ingots to turn white or oxidize heavily, where could I store them without them oxidizing and not have the lead ingots take up room in the house?

I would NEVER sell any lead, NEVER!!! My dad sort of doesn't want to me to store them in the garage as it takes up a lot of room and I don't want to store them in the shed as I don't want them to oxidize. I could try to convince my dad to get me a shelf for me to store my lead on or I could store them in a big metal container. What do you think?

I use dark colored rubbermaid containers - and your ingots are going to gray out unless you seal them - as in vacume packing, and even then you still have to have a place to store the containers.

X2 on Rubbermaid. If you don't paint them you will have to vacuum seal them to slow down the oxidation.

Get your own shed and set up shop. You and your dad will both be happy.

My dad said he plans on getting a new shed one day and the one we have now will be mine and I could store lead there and I would even cast sinkers in there when it is raining (with proper ventilation of course).

I leave mine sit in my shed. They are stacked in rows and layers. Never have covered them. Not worried about it, only worried about jig oxidation.

Actually Doc that gives me a really good IDEA!!!!!!!!!! or get me slapped with a cast iron frying pan (depending how she takes it LOL). My wife keeps buying these solar lights with the different bugs and animals on top to light the yard (Damned things tick me off) she really likes the hummingbird and bumble bee.

Being the cheap skate that I am maybe I'll make a mold of them using some Plaster of Paris and cast a few in lead, then powder paint them and give them to her for her birthday or our 30th anniversary!! Or attach them to a piece of really nice granite that's all polished (we have granite quarries here and a friend works in the design plant for memorials) be easy to get a nice chunk of it and make her a nice desk ornament!!! or 2 separate paper weights!!!!!!!!!!!!

OOHHH this could get me in ALOT of trouble!!!!!!!!!! If I try it!!!!!!!! (and YES the word COWARD!!!! definately comes to mind!!!!!)

I would never melt my lead alloys together. I have some lead that seems to be at least 99.5% pure and I don't want to mix that. The plastic container seems like a good idea.

The 5% tin content of my soft jig head lead significantly retards surface oxidation altho I do store the ingots in closed cardboard boxes in a shed for future use. The hard wheel weight stuff seems to stay shiny in the boxes as is.

MLAL, since you enjoy the melting and casting, you should allow a FLOW of lead into and out of your life. You know, convert scrap into saleable castings. The money you make can be allocated to further supply aquisition and you will be bizzy doing what you love. Lead sitting in storage is dead lead of no value to anyone, unless you consider it a commodity investment.

Not worried about the ingots graying but don't want them to turn white and get powdery. I will try to look for some plastic containers to store my lead ingots in.

I've had ingots in the shed for well over a year and they are fine. Maybe it's the amount of fluxing I do, don't know. Could living in different areas and weather conditions make this an issue? Could be, that is Wayyyy out of my realm of knowledge.

Know someone that has a cat? That one brand of kitty litter comes in a really nice plastic bucket. Don't know if that is something you can find and use for free.
