Still Water Trout Structure?

Moving water trout seem to hold and feed relative to predictable bottom or current structure, but I've never been able to figure what if any structure attracts trout in reservoirs. I mean, beautiful rock points with deep drop-offs that would be walleye-smallie magnets haven't noticeably held more trout than say featureless open water.

This last trip I found both numbers and size in shallow weed bottom flats that I had previously passed over as snag magnets. Wondering if and why the trout were attracted to this type of structure, and what other types of shoreline-bottom features hold trout?

For SoCal; outside weed beds - crusing the shoreline when the water starts cooling down. Follow bait balls and troll also.
