For you guys that build your own rods - how hard is it to replace a handle??? Have an old BPS Pro Comp II one piece rod and the handle is really loose. Would like to replace it.

I replaced one on a flyfrod once, had to put a plastig bag around the handle and soak it in boiling water for 10-15 minutes to soften up the glue, then with a little muscle I slid it off the blank. Very carefully had to scrape away remaining glue, and I was all set to put new handle on.

To be done properly and correctly, every guide, winding, the reel seat, etc must be removed. The handle is the first thing done in a rod build due to blank taper. You might consider a complete overhaul if it has to be done.

I probably wouldn't do it, myself.
