With the temps really cooling off, i have been watching a sort-of local forum to see when the Steelhead start coming up the rivers from Erie. My end of Erie (Western Basin) really has no Steel run but a little farther to the east in the Central Basin does have some rivers they run up. Last year was not a good year... very low river levels did not let the fish in and once we got rain, it froze over pretty quick. At least that is how it played out for the 2 rivers that are within reach - an hour drive - so never did make it over to try. This year it looks like the rivers will have plenty of flow so i am watching the boards and crossing my fingers. Of course too much thought about it has me tying a few in preperation. :) If they do not get thrown at Steelhead, they should work for bluegill next spring or carp in the river.

Hook: Mustad #8 plain shank - bent eye
Shot: WG size 3/0
Paint: Watermellon pepper and tan mix
Body: Craftfur & flash dub mix
Legs: Pumpkin/greek flake sili
Shellback: Green radiant raffia
Tail: Left-over skin from rabbit zonkers

The rabbit skin is left-overs from using just the hair from colored zonker strips on small jigs. After trimming the hair off, the skin goes in a seperate bag and i end up using it later. Once the skin gets completly wet, it has very good movement. Hopefully it makes these nymph-bug-things look a little more lively in the water.
