That eel looks really nice and innovative:icon14:, but I can´t see the balance and don´t understand the dynamics of it. Does the lip ride up or down on a retreive?

Pup - Looks good ... but will that dog hunt ? :)

Or will it go down in history as in the reference that you gave ??

Closed out a bunch of them at one time way back when..

Thank you Bucho. Haven't field tested it yet, but the hook should ride up as the leather is tied in below the hook bend/shank, the sinker is centered or slightly below the hook shank, and the lip weight is opposite the hook point/barb and below the shank.

Great questions and thank you JSC. :) The old Dance's Eel looked like it was a fish catcher, but its legend strongly suggests otherwise. I'll give 'mine' a field test under some good fishing conditions and see for myself. Hopefully, that'll be sometime soon. ;)

This one's a dud. :( It spins like a devon minnow or a buzzer blade. No wobble. I might try increasing the angle of the lip to 90 degrees from the hook shank if I tie it without a sinker. Otherwise, I may try this by tying another unweighted one with a 45 degree lip.

It's fun to field test though. :)
