Pouring Temp.

I've poured some jigs twice now, but ran into a problem the last time I poured. I was pouring some 1/80, 1/64, and 1/32 oz. round head jigs in the Do-It JNR-6-A mold with the Lee Pro 20# melting pot. As I poured one jig, the lead was so fluid that it splashed into the neighboring hole before it was done filling.

I was wondering if this is common for smaller jig sizes and/or if a bottom pour melting pot is causing too much flow or the temperature of the lead was too high.

Any suggestions would be helpful.

Thanks,
Jason

Sounds like heat too high with pure I like 600-650. Another thought that pops up is that pouring 1/80, 1/64th's it doesn't take much to fill the cavity with lead so try lifting the handle half as much and see if its enough to fill without overfilling to the next cavity.

Fatman,
I was lifting the release knob just a tad, the lead was just coming out quick. Kind of reminded me of pouring a glass of water from a pitcher, if done quickly the water sometimes splashes out. This is what I was experiencing.

I'll check the temperature next time.

Thanks for the reply.

If you have the screw adjustment it is touchy! Also I tip the handle up like FM stated to have the lead move away from next hole. Wear gloves and be careful!!
