After a Long dry spell we'r getting some much needed water! Many of our local scab land lakes have been dry or were on the verge of drying up but now are receiving the much needed water. After a wet fall and a generous snowpack things are looking up. Pacific lake north of Odessa has been dry since 2000 if memory serves right and it's filling quite nicely with a strong steady stream running into it. It's about the third to the last one in the chain lakes that reaches around 40 miles. Many of the pastures have pot holes that are full or still filling from water coming up from underground and I haven't seen that in many many years. It seems to put everyone in the community in a better mood and I'm sure has made the ducks and geese pretty happy too!

This is a pic of Pacific lake two weeks ago and you can see the water starting to fill from the bottom. Today the whole bottom is covered and is several feet deep from what I was told. This lake is sort of unique as there is a large cavern on the east end that fills first and then the water comes up from the bottom. Sort of makes you wonder if the lake once was as deep as the cavern and over the years has just filled in with sediment. This was our local recreation spot for our little local town and it's nice to see it filling once again. It has gone dry twice now and if they can keep some of the big irrigators from pumping so much water maybe it'll stay full a bit longer.
