While working a sport show this past January I met a 14 year old who had been to a tying seminar at the show and he excitedly showed me his ties. I could tell he had just gotten started because his materials were limited to a couple items. I told him to call me a few days after the show and I'll help him out and send him some tying materials. He called, gave me his address and I packed a medium flat rate priority box full of tying materials and included a couple hundred painted heads because I was sure he didn't have paint yet. I dropped it in the mail and forgot about it until today when this card came in the mail. I feel pretty good about it so I thought I'd share it with you. Words might be blurry so we'll see how it turns out. Looks like now he's starting a business complete with cards.View attachment 1View attachment 2View attachment 3View attachment 4

I did tell him about jigcraft and another tying site but don't know if he's signed up here or not. He can learn a lot here. Maybe he's too busy tying. If they show an interest we need to get them going in the right direction.

That's really a great story. It's hard to get kids away from the tv/video games. I donate tails/hackle to the De. fly tyers club when they teach people young and old to get into the hobby.

Hope the newbie joins this site.

Very cool Jim.When you can find a young guy that is so passionate about something that you love to do,it makes the gesture 100 times better then then the gesture itself.

That is awesome!!! It's great to see young kids so passionate about this!! I know I was at a young age, then put it away for years... Now I feel like a kid again!! Great story and letter!! That kid will appreciate your gestures for a lifetime!

I was that kid, at a much much older age, not long ago. I know the exact feelings and emotions. I'm not a trusting person. I can truly say that Hunter, Mr G., changed my life the first time my son and I stepped foot in his home. His hospitality gave me a renewed confidence in the word "friend".
Way to go JJ1. Feel good knowing you made a difference in someone's life.

Way to go JJ!!!! Sometimes it just the right thing to do. keep the kids busy in the outdoors will keep them out of trouble and will give them a life time of enjoyment.

Hat off to you.
