I think its awesome that the original trade name was kept by the new owner out of respect for the original designer. Those poppers, locally made by several craftsmen, are REALLY popular for ulua (giant trevally) fishing here and crossover into deep sea apps for surface schooling pelagic species like tunas as well. The original designed in the 60s or maybe earlier was called the Ackerman Ulua Plug. Serious gear limitations back then - some of you might remember that the biggest spinning reel available was the Mitchell Garcia 302 which only held 200 yds of 25# test. Serious modern GT pluggers like at least 300 yds of minimum 80# braid. Some old timers used Penn Senators but had to crank like heck to surface pop with a 3-1 retrieve.
