All this tying and learning has really helped especially the quality of my work now so I thank you all for that as the advise and technique sharing is wonderful as well as seeing all the great works, it really makes me push to do better. Anyway, I was thinking about what I used to tie and the first hair jig that I made in which I caught more than just one or two cold water fish on, it was my first using bucktail and rabbit and my very first time using rabbit strips. The top jig is the replica and it looks better today than it did 10 years ago...lol. It was supposed to be a craw imitator and it didn't come out good so I called it the "deuce" as it had to rabbit strips on the back. This one is tied on a 1/16oz walleye head painted light pumpkin, it has 2 tan UV2 rabbit strips tied on the hook for the tail and it has short red bucktail tied underneath the natural bucktail which is tied on top. The bottom version is a sleeker design using the same 1/16oz walleye head only painted white, it has a single white and chartreuse UV2 rabbit strip with green flash tied in for the tail, and it has short chartreuse bucktail tied in underneath the white bucktail on top. I know the crawfish was a fail when I tried it way back then but instead of untying it and starting over I just added more bucktail and I'm glad I did as the first time out with it it was cold. The water was 39 degrees with an air temp hanging around 42, I remember it well as I only had this one jig tied and I caught 5 fish in as many hours but my buddy caught 1 on a bucktail jig he bought from BPS, needless to say I tied many of them since over the years.
