Buddy and I were jigging for crappie yesterday afternoon. One of our favorite things to do when it is calm is get the ice rods and flashers out and use them out of the boat. So we are set up on a big sunken tree in 20 fow, and I am getting nothing. I am using a 28" St. Croix ultralight, 4# fluoro, and a 1/8-oz bucktail. Drop all the eay down to the bottom, reel up two cranks and start jigging. Well, all of a sudden there is a slow, soft weight on my line. Set the hook and it is dead weight..... crap, I snagged the tree. Then a big head shake, and this tree starts taking line. About 10 seconds of my rod tip almost touching the hand I was reeling with (ice rod was literally doubled up!), everything went slack. I am guessing it was a 8-10# flathead that brushed it off on the tree. My heart was POUNDING! NEXT TIME!!!

THAT is why we all go back out again and again even when the weather sucks and there are always things that we should be doing........... I broke off twice in the last week on fish i never saw. Mad as a hornet for the first few seconds then tying back on feverishly to try and hook-up again. :jig:
