jig hook size help?these are driving me nuts .
any hook specs available some place that I can't
find?
ok I am trying to copy a jig with a heavy hook
and no one in area has the mustad 32833 so i
got some 32755 #6 and #8 and the # 8 is very close
to a match to what I need size wise.
SOOO I ordered 1000 mustad 32833 in #8 and well
they are longer and bigger than 32755 #8 and they
are closer to a size #6 in the 32755 ,wish I new this
before I spent 100 bucks on hooks.
wish these people would give specs on this stuff.
so anyone think a #10 in the 32833 would be about
the same size as the #8 in 32755

Mustad's quality control continues to decline since they moved mfg. to China. I actually tossed my box of 32833 #10 in the trash due to a soft wire issue, so don't have any left to compare with standard light wire #8. Aberdeen round bend jig hooks have similar cross brand sizing standards for Mustad 32756, Eagle Claw 570, & VMC 9147, but as you noticed 32833 for some odd reason created their own sizing particularly in smaller size #s.

On its own the 32833 #8 is a pretty small hook, why is it too large for your target application?

Thanks the  #8 in the 32833 as I said is longer and a bigger hook than the #8  hook in the 32755.
the #8 in 32755 fits the bill size wise but I want a heavy hook like the 32833 and also the short shank
or whatever it's called to the eye.

the reason is we use these in a 1/32 oz tube skirt jig mold and fish steel head with them.
the small jig we use 3 wax worms ,and it fills the hook and most important is that when
they hit the little hook buries right in hard and they don't/can't throw it .thats why I was disappointed
in the bigger size of the 32833 I got as the longer hook will come loose a lot faster on them.

you tossed yours out /anyone make a hook that is comparable to the 32833?
anyone have a couple #10 hooks in the 32833 I could buy to try them for size?

The short leg 32833 might not be the best fit in a standard Aberdeen jig hook mold, especially since the 1/32 tube skirt mold was designed for a #6 fit.

The VMC 9147 #8 is strong for light wire - JiggerJohn has caught some REALLY big cats & carp on the #8, guessing twice the weight of any steelhead you might encounter. Previously, the made in China version had an excellent chemically sharpened point and superb wire strength, but the last batch I got was made in France with an old school chisel point. WAY cheaper than the 32833.

Have you looked at a 32760BR or a 32755GL? The 760 is 1X strong and 1X short. Don't know if that would help or be close to what you need. I was just going off of Capt. Hooks page on explanations. The 833's are 2X strong so maybe the 1X's may not be enough for your needs. Just a  Thought.

The aberdeen hook being smaller gauge wire you might get leakage down the shaft slot and the eyelet. You might be doing a bunch of trimming. Most Do-It molds without moding them will go up or down 1 hook size. An Eagle Claw 571 works as far as the short eyelet to bend but not hook length and only come in size 1 and 1/0

Another but you'd have to bend it Daiichi1640 Tube Fly Hook, and I don't know how hard it would be to bend it.

I know you're trying to recreate the jig from your other thread but that hook was bent to make it.
