First day of the year.....ice has been out about a week. Water is 41. Could not get a bite yesterday and was finding them deep on HD. Went to another lake today and found them again deep. Played around with 20 plus winds until about 10 am and decided to go from 1/16 down. Give a shout out to my friend with the 1/80 and I also managed several with my 1/48 silver head. Thought I had the mother load as you see with electronics. All were short crappies. But caught them until I was tired of bringing in the wind socks and drifting! Cannot remember who made the Chartreuse 1/80 with ostrich but they were on fire broke off the chartreuse head white body chart tail!!!!

That ostrich herl jig looks like one of mine. Only problem is, I don't remember sending any out???

Congrats on the catching!

"Short" Crappie? Does the State of Illinois have a minimum size on Crappie, or is that a local restriction? Here in OK, there is no State minimum limit on Crappie, but many lakes have local area restrictions.

Sounds like a fun day and got fish slime on your hands is always a plus. Hope you find some bigger fish on your next trips out. There looks like a massive bait ball on the 2nd screen shot.

Dang, i can't wait to get out and do some casting. Edges are open, but the big ice cube in the middle is still stubbornly sticking around up here.

Thanks guys....

Allen.....some lakes do have restrictions. This lake I was on does not but they were about 9" fish. Threw them back so they can grow. If they were your jigs!!! Thanks

That particular pattern I've done as Chart/Fuscia (looks like what's pictured), Chart/Red, Chart/White (really HOT combo), and Chart/Black. I've got some Pank saddle hackle, and will be doing some pink combos soon. I also plan on dying some white ostrich herl into at least two shades of Blue. I've also got some Chartreuse and Pink Ostrich herl, and plan on doing some with those colors as well. So much to do.....

I've only distributed some Chart/White micro jigs. Can't remember letting some of my other color combos go? Unless I sent some to Carl, the gent you sent those pillheads to, and he sent some to you? I have posted pics of the various color combos I've done with that pattern, maybe someone else tied some up?

It's a mystery, that's for sure. Even if they're mine, or someone else's, I'm glad you caught some fish on them! Little buggers are downright deadly, that's for sure!
