Got to work friday at 8:00 and noticed the river behind the shop was pretty high after 3 days of above normal (almost record) temps. Checked the hydrograph from NOAA and the most recent reading 5.5 feet, that was up 3' from just 2 days ago.

At around 9:00, my boss came back from the bank and told me to go out and check out the ice in the river..... there was NO ice earlier, just muddy water. I grabbed my camera, here is what i saw!

All of the 'locked in' ice from the slower running section up-stream must hve let loose all at once, it flowed with chunck ice wall to wall like this for about 30 mins!!! Saw lots of very large trees go by. Standing there and watching it gave you a feeling of vertigo... like you were moving instead of the ice moving by. It caused a minor ice jam for a little while somewhere downstream, the water level rose to 7.5' in less than an hour. Was pretty amazing to watch.

One last pic from after the amount of ice started to slow down some... a VERY large tree on its way north!
