homemade weedguards

I used to make my weedguards out of simple mono. I'd lash the mono to the rear of the bend and bring it forward looping it around the hook point and fastening near the eye of the hook. Lately, I've found this method to be easier to tie, better protection of the hook point when fishing around debris, and less snags. I'd though I'd share. If anyone has a better way to do this... I'm always up for suggestions:

For Flies:

Start thread in the usual way:

I use Mason Nylostrand as my weedguards. It works great.

place nylostrand through the hook eye:

Tie down guard on top of hook shank: (A little super glue helps the process)

Take a pair of pliers and bend the nylostrand to the shape you wish:

Then cut off excess near the hook point with a pair of wire clippers:

If your tying a bend-back or a "bottom-bouncer" fly sometimes a "V" shaped weedguard works better:

FOR JIGS:

Start the thread as you would a fly:

Repeat the above steps as you would to tie a guard onto a fly hook then clip to shape:

I mold the wire in the Jig ...
Great way U use if UR not molding in and for flies.
