O.K. I am making a couple of friends of mine some jigs for Christmas. They live in Ga. and fish in Fl. So What I need to know is what colors are good to fish with in Fl. and what size jig head should I use? I was thinking 1/2oz or 1 oz. They fish for drum, sheepshead, snapper, and some others that I can't think of  <---(clueless at the moment) Thanks guys, Heather

For salt water, I prefer heavy wire tinned or black nickel hook heads to tie on.
For shallow water flats, seems like 1/8 -3/8 oz. is a popular size range on light spinning tackle.
But, head weight is determined by what is castable or what can be dropped efficiently to desired depths with your friends' gear.
Bucktail & nylon floss in white, chartreuse, & pink maybe with a red accent seem popular for SW ties, but I prefer rabbit fur.
So, when you get the proper heads I'd say anything goes on the ties.

Here's a link showing some pro SW jig ties:

And, here's a pic of basic crosscut rabbit fur ties on the same Sparkie heads. I like my ties off the collar on the shank.
