This is my first attempt at a wooly bugger pattern, I know it is kind of bunched up but the pic actually makes it look worse than it is but I now know how to do this. This was made on a 3/32oz head with a size 1 hook, the tail is black marabou with a little silver flash. I used black ultra chenille and dyed saddle hackle to finish it

That's a nice looking jig! The marabou tail will give it some action. When you get it in the water I wonder if you'll wish you added more marabou?

You did a really good job on the hackle. You palmered it well and the length makes it look balanced. I like the black/brown combination. It will look alive in the water!

Does look good - but would make a fuller bou tail as Hippel mentioned. Maybe 1 xtra wrap of the hackle at the rear as well. Think that (fuller/slower action tails) is just a personal preference though..... see alot of others trying to go thinner. Maybe just a 'Bass' thing too. :D

Thanks all! Normally I go with big tails, rabbit zonkers, bucktail, and even marabou but lately I've been watching the action of different material in the water and I learned some things. The jigs made with marabou have a ton of action, the big tails I made work fantastic when moving and when sitting still but I've been really amazed at how hackle slows down the fall and waves around in the water so I thought the wooly bugger may be better if I highlight the body rather than the tail. Itried it in the water today (5 gallon bucket makes testing in house easy) and I now agree with all of you, I need to use more tail material, that little bit of marabou move so freely but because it does the sparse tail seperates and is moving but it is hard to see as it doesn't have much mass to really draw attention to it. I'll use it but the next one I make with have a bigger tail for sure!
