Embossing powders

Recently bought some embossing powders and have started experimenting.
Not having a lot of luck so figured I'd post here to see if anyone could share their experience.

My first shot was 1 part gold to 4 parts clear tried as top coat on raw heads and white heads and on the raw head had a gold look but not really gold. On the white head it looked like a gold pearl and was not very pronounced.

I then added a bit more gold 1/2 part and it overpowered and not the look I an seeking. So any ideas, ratios etc that anyone has tried?

I won`t be able to contribute much since I`m just starting to get more serious this year, but an embossing technique I want to try is to get details by using something sticky defore dusting with powder so the powder sticks only where you want. But again, haven`t tried it yet.
