I liked Salty's Gill Jigs so I tried some myself. I had some 1/80 oz jigs on #10 hooks to tie some jigs for gills. I added some black foam wings hopefully to make them float and I'm gonna try them with my fly rod. The top jig is a 1/8 oz just to show the size. The little black jigs on the sides are fished under a small cork.

Thanks guys, I got some colored foam sheets at Hobby Lobby that I cut the wings out with. If I had the right kind of fly hooks, I bet I could make some neat bugs with it. What type and size hooks would I need for something like that?

Really nice ties. If you want to go straight fly hook I'd look at the 3906 or 3906B size 10. I think Zac does a bunch on that size hook. If you can find them in bulk and the right price pick up some 3399 - really good strong hook. Another hook that works good is a 3366 and I've seen those in bulk in a bunch of places. Only thing with those ones is they are a straight shank hook with a straight eye.

Thanks Fatman, I'm new to the fly tying but I do enjoy fly fishing for blue gills in my brother in law's pond.

Somebody has patience! I could never do anything that small. They look great. Scott, think you could them under a 2ozer and push em for deep gills? :)

Y'all sure are having a lot of fun with my crankbait pushing weights. :dodgy:
That's okay, I've got thick skin. :P I still love y'all though. :D
Hey Fatman, I ordered some fly hooks from Captain Hooks last night. I got some #3366 size 10 and some (M80050BR) size 10. Thanks for the suggestions.

Those will work! Nice ties. The 3366's will do you good.... they are good for a lot of stuff. I got 1000 size 8's here a couple years ago and tie a lot of different stuff on em.

No problem Scott - glad to help. I wish I had a pond around like that. The way they spawn you guys need to keep a bunch to keep them in check so they don't get stunted.

My brother in law put bluegill, copper nose hybrid, and red ear in there when he rebuilt the pond 5 yrs ago. Those copper nose get huge.
