Unfortunately I didnt catch this one! This was caught by my father-in-law when he was 12 back in 1970. He was fishing with his grandpaw in an irrigation pond for a peach orchard. Caught it on a cane pole using a shiner while paddling a small jon boat. He said he thought it was a bass until he got it in the boat. He will never forget his GP's reaction. "I got the tail!" His favorite part to eat was the tail. His GP couldnt believe he wasnt going to eat it. They weighed it at a small grocery store but never had it officially weighed. He gave it to me to hang in the shop. The fish is curved but looks to be just under 20 inches. They never knew why the crappie got so big in that pond... They caught several over 3lbs.

Nice fish! Now there's a mount to be proud of! Have caught several in the 16" - 16 1/2" range, but never anything like that..:jig:

That's huge. Now,where is this pond?? It does have the coloration of a bass but that's probably due to what colors taxidermists had to work with back in 1970.

Definitely would be in the books. Several years ago they had to take it back to the taxidermist to get touched up. Fins were cracking and was getting a hole in the back. They touched up the paint then. By then the specks had faded.
