    Some recent fish

Been doing some fishing.  Got out one day last week, caught a Smallie on a custom jig clipped to a jig-spinner frame. Headed out to a spot I've fishing several times and always get skunked.  Yesterday (Sunday) I managed to catch a Dogfish/Bowfin on a jig I painted/tied.  Didn't have my net or...

    Monday, 4/22

Went to a stream I like to frequent that has a healthy population of Smallies.  Caught two on an inline spinner.  Ended up donating a couple spinners to the River Gods.  Good thing I assemble my own.

    First Smallie of the year!

Got out for a bit today after the madness at work.  Was using my little UL rig with a small inline spinner.  Fishing a crystal-clear stream that's only a couple feet deep.  Lots of laydowns in the water, including a new one this past winter.  Had a brief tussle with a Smallie that spit my lure. ...

    WMD hairwing streamers

Met a taxidermist that had some Black Bear scraps he wanted to unload.  Finally got around to tying something with some.  Saw a pattern called a "WMD".  The original pattern had a wing of Black Possum hair.  I ended up doing some with the Black Bear.  That stuff is coarse and wiry!  Less is...

Rosey's Transparent Gold, Candy Gold, Transparent Brass

I was helping out a new friend on FB, answering some basic jig painting questions for him.  I was telling him where to buy various powder paints, and just happened to hit Rosey's website.  They have those three colors listed.  Has anyone used them?  The website said you want to use a base coat...

    Question about Glow powder paint

A couple years ago, I bought a small jar of Glow White powder from CAT.  When I did those tungsten jigs a couple weeks ago, I noticed that the ones painted with Glow White had a mottled glow effect.  I've got a test batch baking right now to try and rule out some variable.  However, while I was...

Finally! Got set up to do some Tungsten Ice Jigs

I was finally able to gather what I needed to assemble a pan to bake some powder painted tungsten jigs.  Got the pan assembled today.  Painted some jigs, then ran them through my toaster oven. That's the pan.  Only had enough #4 flat washers to do one piece of All-Thread.  I'm probably just...

    Sexy Shad Deceivers

Tied up some Deceivers today.  Size 2, done Grey over Yellow over White, a color pattern the lure companies call "Sexy Shad".  It definitely is sexy!  Can't wait to get one of these wet!

Finally tried an idea I've had....

I've been wondering how folks here paint their ice-fishing tungsten jigs.  The few I've seen look like a basecoat of powderpaint, and then fine details with some kind of liquid paint over the pp.  I've been thinking it was fingernail polish. I did some for a friend, as he was wanting some...

Getting Life back to somewhat normal

Figured I'd get this onto the OT forum instead of the main one. Life is slowly settling into a routine, and I am beginning to establish a "new normal" for me.  Got my truck insured and plates renewed (since She Who Must Not Be Named blew all my money before I could get it done).  Picked up a...

    Ok, it's happened....

Three weeks ago my coworkers informed me that my spouse was cheating on me.  They had found some pictures of her and another guy on FB.  My kids all knew about it, and she had told the kids not to tell me. We did a little digging and realized she's been cheating on me for over a year. Monday I...

    Major life changes and offline

Here shortly, probably at the end of this month, I will be making a drastic life change.  Once that happens, I won't have a computer for awhile.  I'll try to get on with my phone when I can.  It will probably be a few months before things settle down and I can return.

    Craven's Screaming Banshee Caddis

Craven's Screaming Banshee Caddis. My wings are still a little on the big side, compared to the front wing. However, I doubt the Bluegill will mind. The two on the bottom left are size 14, the rest are 12's. The one furthest to the right is the first one tied, definitely had wings that are too big.

    Recent Ties 3/14

Been going through my "Tie List" of various patterns I've seen over the past few months.  Here are a few more that I've done. I tied up some RS2's in BWO colors. Natural Mallard CDC for the wing. Sizes are 16, 18, 20, and 22. Yes, the 16 might be a little too big, but it was a good size to...

    Matt's Midge

Ok, I lied. I'm not done with the size 22 stuff. Matt's Midge, size 22.

    Evil Olive

Size 14.  Did some in 16 and 18 as well.  I can see Bluegill going nuts for these.

    Barr's Jumbo John

Barr's Jumbo John, size 6.  Intended for Steelhead, if I ever get over that way.  Although I'm sure a hungry Smallie will inhale these.

    Asher Stackers!

Asher Stacker midges, size 22. I apologize for the bad lighting and the errant hair on the left side.

    Holsinger's Steelhead Candy

Finally got around to tying up some of these.  Need get some of the teal tinsel in Medium size; all I have is Small.

    A couple Wooly Buggers

Both are tied on size 10 streamer hooks.  I like the look that bead-chain eyes give these.  I used Pheasant Tail Ice Dub for the body on the brown one, and Olive Brown Ice Dub for the body on the Olive WB.  4B hackle (new to me material) in appropriate colors.  These things ought to be killers!
