    Best Mold for Tie Guys

Not like you had a choice since Matzuo tanked, and for a crappie hook Nastys are OK. I like #2 also for pinning 2" softies but prefer heavier wire for the lurking in the shadows nasties here.

When do you fish a jig?

JiggerJohn was also a smallie enthusiast with a preference for Lake Erie. And yes, he enjoyed eating em.

When do you fish a jig?

Those look more hefty than usual? If you'd care to share, what were they biting? Were you casting towards the bank?

    Best Mold for Tie Guys

Altho I'm pushing 100 molds practically all for others, for my own tying just one suffices for my limited needs . I would recommend these for a newbie pourer as not only a good start but useful tools for life. https://barlowstackle.com/do-it-steelhead-jig-molds-p336/ In addition to the...

When do you fish a jig?

Whatever works keeps it fresh. On a very rare hectic bite my catch tops out at 20 or so, dunno if its the limited resource or just me.

    Jig Packaging

A project worth considering...what materials did you use for the skid and raised rails? Don't soft plastics stick to the skid?

    Fooling around .

As one who creates tackle solutions requiring the least time, materials, & expense your creations are...um...disturbing. Your buzzing boner jig will likely remain the all time wacky creation I've ever seen.

    KISSing Winter Smallies

OK, posted this topic to share my efforts to catch warm water species from shore in Winter. Bout done, nothing more to add as it seems the black 1/16 #6 mink inch jig is the most productive and haven't been able to improve on it. Today was again slow but lucky to get 17 & 18" wallys + 3...

    KISSing Winter Smallies

Tried a 1/32 #8 dark brown mink jig yesterday thinking the lighter weight slow sink would be an advantage. Nope, no bites, switched to the usual 1/16 #6 black mink and altho slow eventually got 4 smallies + a bonus 20# carp. Good thing my 4# Power Pro and 4# tuff mono leader likely overtest &...

    rock-a-roo jigs

Has anyone considered seriously targeting walleye with tied jigs? I've dabbled with a few and caught fish, but modern soft plastics have been too successful to quit plus ties require time and materials. For 5 bucks a bag of 10 or more softies just pin one on a jig head and good to go. No...

    rock-a-roo jigs

Man, you old timers really had to work for your wallys. Altho I target best seasonal opportunity species here there is a special satisfaction with catching a wally speshly the biguns. Being a relative newby to the game have taken the EZ road with soft plastics, spending tackle building time...

    KISSing Winter Smallies

Well, ain't gonna get bit staying home intimidated by snow, ice, & mud. Never used 1/32 heads before but poured some tiny plain balls with #4 2x hooks last nite, glued on bead collars, and pinned with 2" pearl BG Baby Shad. Figgered the light weight could enable slower retrieves than my usual...

    KISSing Winter Smallies

Low water canal still ice free reservoir release 70-80 cfps. Still possible to catch a few yesterday 9 smallies and 3 carpsuckers which I finally positively IDed by differentiating the sucker down facing mouth and buffalo more forward facing. They both have chunky wide bodies and iridescent...

Another take on why fish (possibly) strike lures in general (not accepted by most)

Sometimes anything gets bit, sometimes only one, sometimes nuthin. I gave up trying to figger why.

    Tigerfish jigs

Are the ties on the collar? What type/size hook? Tie material? Target species? I like the tapered to a point tail. How did you hide the thread wrap?
