Thass some serious chitmon - I thought you were throwing 1/4 - 1/2 oz off a pier. Your ties look conservative traditional safe. The banana is mainstream, & the Sea Horse might be a new look edge.

Thanks for the comments. I'm gonna go out and fish some structure one morning on a charter, but the rest of the time will be pier, jetty and Laguna Madre, so there will be some 1/4 and 1/2 oz stuff also. The Tarpon will be running the jetty while I'm there also, maybe some 1 oz???

Nice ties, look similar to ones my nieces hubby had me using last time I went to FL. Tarpon OTOH are a blast on a fly rod if you have that opportunity.

Did good on these last year at the Ft. Walton pier.
The 2 top left had Big Reds hooked, after a 20-30 min
Battle, they wrapped around the pier beams and broke off.

CH, those look like some pretty big jigs to throw off a pier - how heavy? Is it even possible to land the cows?

I tangled with wrappers - once - off the Hilo Harbor pier. The fish weren't huge, but every blessed hookup headed under the pier thru the pilings. Nothing more distressing than your drag screaming with pole bent under the pier feeling the line dragging over barnacles. Reminds me when Billy Jack pointed to a spot upside the Sheriff's(?) head and said to the effect "I'm gonna kick you right there and there's not a dam thing you can do to stop it".

Off the Piers (here on the NW FL Coast) if you have any wind blowing at all 1/2 oz is about the smallest you can fish due to the wind picking the line up (SW wind in the PM is normal about every day ,, length of the tail means a lot as to the size and not the jig weight ... You have to adjust the size/profile to the fish that are running that day ..

All of the jigs shown look good .. have not seen a "Sea Horse" used in this area ... few spinners that I know of are used except in the bays and mouth of the rivers ..

Have Fun

Thanks Mel, Sorry for the hijack, hope you get into them good.

Keith, yeah, you can land them. My BIL had a drop net, that is a whole other story for amatuers when the wind is howling......
