Played with this uv stuff last night for first time. Diff to say the least. Lots of tweaking to make me wanna buy more.
I covered a weaved lace body and it looked good but was too "tacky" for my liking so when I went to put another coat on I decided just to cover head to. Mistake. Took away all it's shine.
Any who, trial n error I guess and I like to play, keeps me from getting bored.

Nice experiment LP.

Have you tried wiping the jig down with isopropyl alcohol to remove the tackiness? That worked for me with clear cure goo.

Normal?

LP,

I'd say yes. When I messed around with clear cure goo last summer, my instructor mentioned that the UV rays from the sun were more than adequate for curing. The sun can fully cure a fast-cure epoxy (goo) quickly. Its UV rays are powerful.

UV flashlights and black lights are mostly for a tyer's convenience. :)

I've got a mini uv light but it "cures" it nowhere close to that sun treatment it seems. They actually use this stuff to make surfboards. Thx for the help mucho. :)

Used one small bottle of it, never could get a good cure under UV lamps but an afternoon in the sun, rock hard no matter the temperature.

A buddy has their resin curing lamp and says he never has a problem. I know for a fact, he coats them on a turner, lets it spin a while and when he is happy with the look turns his lamp and heads to the TV and eventually bed.

Usually he turns lamp off the following afternoon when he gets home from work.

What I did like about solarez, was you could use it for eyes, do a real quick cure with the flashlight then coat entire bait rotate it a bit to level the coating, zap it with the light a little bit and no runs or sags. Hang it and wait for the sun to shine and put it on the porch for a few hours to fully cure.

I need to visit my fly shop soon. Perhaps, then, I can pick up some speedy epoxy and advice to bring home with me. ;) Already, I see a potential use for this in the development of "hard-bodied" baits that cast good distances. Props and blades come to mind for their hardware dressings.

Never tried the stuff . I think one of those critter infrared lights like I use for baby chickens might do the trick . I sometimes use it to cure epoxy . Lined a cardboard box inside with foil cut a slot so I could slide it behind a turner wheel . Put dowel rods in the top for drip dry lures . Worked for the need at the time .

Saltwater fly guys usually add a topcoat of nail polish to bring back the shine to a tacky UV cured head. The "surf candy" is one example. A lot of those guys add one coat of the UV cure goop, cure it, wipe it with alcohol to remove the tack, and coat with clear nail polish for shine (or another coat of goop to build a head). I've use Loon outdoors UV fly finish for over a year now and I really like the results. I've used it as a clear coat on jigheads and fount it more durable than epoxy, It doesn't cure brittle and glassy like epoxy seems to.

Interesting look - the tiger weave is very cool! Never have tried any of the UV cure stuff... yet. I have found that putting any clear coat over the mica or pearl colors changes the look. The pearl looses the smooth look and just turns glossy. Some of them even loose the extra colors after a clear coat.
