Presently tied up with new experiment. But an imatation of these is what I am going to try next. Great bait in NE Ohio but getting harder and harder to find. Proper common name Redside Dace. As kids we called the red dace and rainbow dace. When in spawning colors they are almost too beautiful to use as bait. ( Made me feel kinda guilty ) But they worked so darn good could not resist.

If some of you try to imitate it post pix please. :jig:

Female the top minnow in pix ,colors are not as vivid as the male.

Thanks guys . Its been a long time since I tied that style. Back when folks used to do that when there was only hair feathers and wool yarn to use. The main body has clear shelac on it to keep the hair from coming out or slipping. If you squeeze the body it will feel kind of like squishing a minnow. Especially if its wet.

Looks great toad!

Those daces are in same family as Silversides , huh p.p.?

I used to do work in an Icthyology lab and did morphometrics works for my professor on Silversides?
Never seend'd none like that though.......perty fish.

Theres a "pond" of sorts that holds some of the biggest slabs I know of around here. It's filled with Brook Silversides and you can catch 'em by the pound with a lantern and scoop net at the right time. People call 'em "glass minnows", but damned if it isn't near impossible to keep em alive for long.

G'luck

Lost Pole - scientific name is " clinstomus elongatus " according to Wikipedia it is the only minnow that leaps out of the water to snatch insects out of midair. Sadly I was right about them getting hard to find. They are listed as an endangered species.
