I have a lot of success with this jig tied plain without red flash for crappie, blue gill & sunfish. sometimes I cast and jig / retrieve as normal or rig under a slip bobber.

This Football Head comes in a few sizes 3/8, 1/4, 1/8, 1/16, 1/32. They are from custom molds made for my father in the 70's and sold around NY & PA since that time. (3/8 & 1/32 have a rounded nose) They are great for perch and panfish and the larger sizes pull in a few walleye. This jig is often tied with hair for summer fun though we have also offered the three smaller sizes in a tinsel body with hackle for ice fishing (Pro Football). This ice pattern is a favorite with FL fishermen who like the 1/8 to pull crappie through holes on the lilly pads - for this I had a special mold made to accept a longer shank hook to tip with minnows.

I think this jig is similar to a bullet style but is a bit more balanced as the shape tapers toward the shank of the hook with the weight centered near the eye of the hook.

Very nice tied jig. I really like the calf tail jigs this time of year when the fish tend to like a smaller jig fished slow. With this type jig and a squirrel tail jig you can fill the livewell.
