Extended tail Mayfly

Mayflies are fun to tie and fish. Here is my latest extended tail Mayfly. These colors are very close to the Mayflies we have and should work well. This one is tied on a size 12 hook.

That's an incredible tie, that's about the only hatch of mayflies I have on my river, their good sized flies and everything eats them. If there were trout in the river they'd be all over those.

Thanks Wayne. We had a big hatch a few weeks ago but I was sick and missed fishing it. Our flies are 1 1/2'' to 2'' long and the fish gorge on them. The trees are just covered and they will cover you if you are close by.
These pics were took on Santee at the first of Aug this year. The trees are covered!

Incredible tie. It looks real and should catch a bunch of fish as long as it isn't fished during a hatch like in the pictures. Better keep your mouth closed around that swarm unless you're looking for a little protein.

Jim, most of our lakes have big Mayfly hatches. If you can catch them when they first start emerging you can kill the fish with a Mayfly fly but once they break through the surface they will cover anything and anyone close!!! I had a buddy that had a pontoon. He took his little dog fishing with him and that dog would eat Mayflies until he got sick then start eating them again LOL. At the landings you need a net over your head to unload and load your boat because they will be all over the docks, trees and light poles. It is amazing to see so many of them but it can make fishing very slow for a few weeks after the big hatches.
