Bonefish jigs

G'day all, been away from Jigcraft for far too long. Work and life issues got in the way. Just back from first decent holiday in eight years. Went to a tiny atoll, a dot in the vast Pacific Ocean, about ten hours and two flights from Sydney.
Tied some jigs for the trip. Was still tying the morning before we flew out (memo: you know how a packet of candy sticks together when left in a hot car _ well the same happens when still sticky jigs are stuffed into a little tacklebox and packed in your luggage!!).
So they are a bit rough and ready.
Most were tied on 1/8th Gamakatsu Cobra heads, which are a sort of cross between a diamond shape and a Boxing Glove head shape. Couldn't source any flats style skimmer jig heads so flattened some of the Cobras with pliers. There's a mix of both in the pic.
Also tied some of Keith's brilliant heads as well.
Fulfilled a long ambition on the trip. Will do a report in Saltwater section. Bit knackered from return journey, and adjusting from Pacific warmth to a cold and rainy and grey Sydney winter's day (sorry for average pic, the light is horrible!).
Cheers all and gonna settle down beside heater and browse pages of Jigcraft creations haven't seen for weeks, and write my report up.

Without looking at the report yet, I'd say those jigs accounted for a fair share of screaming bones if they were present and reef fish that you could keep out of the coral. Would guess you lost more than few of the reef diggers.

Hiya, yep, some of yours are in the coral, and a couple left with some local fellas who are just getting into light tackle fishing!!!! They were intrigued by hair and feather jigs and really quizzed me on how we all make them!

Good to see you back Bombora 2...I thought perhaps you got lost in The Outback .......
Those are some nice jigs you ties..what kind of hair did you use..almost looks like badger....
It is hard to believe Australia has a winter....I seen the weather in Sydney yesterday...it looked like a good day to stay indoors !!...

Ha! Sure felt like was gonna be swamped today. Surf went from two to 10 feet in a few hours, and wind was as strong as we left it in Aitutaki.
Just plain old bucktail. Couldn't get the tan Arctic Fox I wanted in time. Most have some rubber legs tied in too.

Great to see you post bombora, like the others I thought you got lost. Awesome tied jigs, the eyes and rubber really adds a kick to the jigs.

Those are some nice looking crabby/natural ties. Your gold heads look great and styles look great for gliding across the flats.

I'm new around here but East Texas says Back! Is that vinyl paint covering the head & thread? Looks GREAT! Very clean. Nice Tie's!

G'day Pepop, just used nail polish and Sally Hansen clear coated over. Several coats kept the polish on while rubbing against coarse coral sand as the retrieve bounced along the bottom. Painting the thread helps the tie survive sharp toothed tropical critters.

Great looking jigs. I'm heading to Key West later this year, I think I need to spin up a few of those!
