I have been fascinated lately with the work of a guy named Fred G. Hannie who ties extremely realistic looking flies. http://www.realisticflytying.net

Tried tying something a little more realistic myself last night. Didn't turn out exactly like I hoped but I think its pretty cool looking. Tied on a #8 or #10 (??) streamer hook. Body was made with pieces of mono and white thread then colored with markers. Wings are from small feathers at the base of a turkey wing. legs are made from the center piece of a turkey body feather.

That is pretty darn slick . Don't have any trout around close but I could clean up on some perch .

Good start to learning how to make the realistic looking flies. The more you look at them the more you come to realize that it isn't really tying it's more of using a lot of different materials to make them look like a "something", they just have a hook. There seems to be a lot gluing but, they are awesome!! I would like to know the hours that it takes to make some of them.
