jj mentioned how similar the satin jigs were to my flash ducks so this morning while waiting for it to warm up a little before getting out I tied up 15. 1/32 and 1/24 in 6 & 8's. Got a box full now and might just take these and nothing else after an early lunch. Some blacklight photos of the same jigs. View attachment 8View attachment 9View attachment 1

I do like some red in a lot of my jigs. Red in the tail is either thread that I purposely tie and or Chinese Red UNI-floss. The uni-floss is thicker than I like so I split a small piece into 3-4 sections lengthwise with my half hitch tool and then tie on little section in. Then comes the satin and the flank last. These take less time to tie than my other ducks. Did 15 this morning in less than an hour. A couple floats, small split shot and I'm ready to go. I'm heading out in a few minutes. Gonna take a camera.

Those darker duck feathers sure have some excellent contrast. Beautiful work on them all and best of luck on the water.

Side note - if you do some searching, there are articles about how a lot of duck and geese hunters are getting special UV reflective paint (the stuff that is outside our visual range) for on decoys to try and match the natural UV reflective properties of their feathers. Those style of jigs might glow like underwater beacons to some fish species.

Russ, I have seen firsthand the UV paint on snow goose decoys work.... otherwise I would think this UV idea was a bunch of bunk. Like you said, another reason these duck jigs work so well!

Zac - do they offer this paint for sale?? I can see using it but it would probably need an epoxy overcoat but I don't know anything about it. Any more info would be great.

Wind forecast was supposed to be 5-10mph but was more like 15-20. I fished for 1 1/2 hours and managed 6 crappie and 3 gills, none worthy of a photograph. They do work though. Tried three different jigs and all caught fish. Going to get an earlier start tommorrow and try again.

Hard to fine a great day to fish with these winds but it's good to hear you were able to try the jigs. Thanks for the report.
