I don't verticle jig much so I didn't want all the loose strands of fabric on this jig, but I did want to try the wool concept, it's a 1/16 roundhead, sculpin wool for the body and a touch of orange kiptail and steve farrar flash blend.

I tried the method of tying the wool in halfway and folding it back on itself, and decided I wanted to just use two separate peices of wool, it just made the thread neck look better, I think the splash of kiptail works good with this, not sure about the flash blend tho, I can see a crappie nibble on this thing!!

so it was one peice of wool tied in on the top of the jig, and another on the bottom, don't use alot of wool it bulks up fast, and I trimmed the excess wool forward of the thread neck with a razor blade, pressing against the wool using the head as a backstop, but be careful when doing that not to chip the paint. can see this wool undulating and moving in the water, plus you can see alot of light thru this stuff.

thanks guys, I had this peice of sculpin wool still on the leather and most of it had already been used except for about 3/4" next to the hide, so cutting it off next to the hide gave me enough for the hookside peice, then all I needed was a little of the full length with the tips intact for the streamer body. I notice they sell this stuff in a few different colors including chartruese and gray. I had a few natural color peices stashed away from when I used then for deer scent pads years ago, I hope I didn't throw them away, gonna have to look for them.

I have seen some sculpin wool on the hide at BPS which is where this came from, I noticed all the peices on the rack were different in straightness and knap etc. I picked the one that was really combed out nice and straight, it was really soft, but if you got a more raw peice that hasn't been processed as much, I think the texture could be much stiffer.

Very nice tie.

I've tied panfish jigs using lambswool and like the way it moves in water. I use streamer hair (Icelandic Sheep Hair) and wool roving for larger jigs on occasion too. The fact that wool holds water is a big plus for me. I like the added weight for longer casting.
