My 1/16 pillhead mold has a modification where I can use regular hooks as well as jig hooks so I poured and tied some up on size 2 bronze sickles. Since the hooks are straight would the hook ride down or up.The heads on these can be positioned anywhere on the hook, even turned so the eyes are up and down. I'll tie a few soon to show pics of those. I'm wondering because the ducks I did might be upside down .The smallest I can pour these is on a size 4 hook.

Wow, lot's of great tyers on this site. Seems like it doesn't matter if it's salt or fresh water, some really good tyers.

Nice ties!!!!!!!! I think it's gonna depend on the know how those will ride. I'd want them to ride hook up. If you want them to run that way, if you could get 30 degree bend hooks that would make them ride hook up but with a straight hook the type of know.

Let us know

qk, I bought the hooks at Cabela's, $2.99 for 25 ct bronze and $3.99 for red sickles.I could mail you a few to play with, with or without heads.. I bought the aberdeen sickles originally to see if they would fit in a friends 1/8 spinnerbait silicone mold. I think I'll try bending the hook eye up a little and if that works without breaking the hook then the hooks should ride up.Playing with these makes me want to buy some fly hooks and make a bunch of buggers. fm, maybe try looking at aberdeen sickle hook. I'm going to check ebay. The one's at Cabela's range from a 2-14.

I would say bend the eye (think the direction they say on the fly style hooks is down) just a little towards the hook point and you will be good with the plain ducks and bugger jigs.

....the tail gunners - i would guess those will spin and twist your line! :( Can't say for sure but have played around with some 60* jig head gunners using colorado blades, the bigger the blades the more torque they have and force the whole jig to spin. With #2, 60degree O'Shaugh hooks on heavy heads and #2 Colorado blades it only happens when you reel fast but smaller/lighter weight heads they spin like a helicopter. Doesn't do it as much with Indy blades and less with willow..... I would test a few before you make too many. ;)

Damn they look killer though! Those black ones are beasts!

If you are looking into regular bend hooks, look at the 3399 sproat mustad hooks...... half the price of their fly hooks! Or if you want to bend them your self to give you more of a 'leg' from the bend to the eye, look at 3366 sproat hooks. I know the 3366 bend good (to a 45* or 60* angle) without breaking in the #8 & #6 sizes as long as you don't bend right below the eye - just need a hair bit of space.

The aberdeen sickles are  though.

The blades on these are Indianas. I checked on ebay under aberdeen sickle hooks and found a 100 ct. gold #2 for $9.99 with free shipping. ITEM #330511943927 I think for now until I test them I'll stick to bladeless baits.

I'll have to check out Cabela's, JJ... I'll be there next weekend. If nothing else, I'll have some Cabela's gift cards to burn here in awhile too I bet. ;)

I will say if you find the straight shank sickles BUY THEM! It got to where cabelas was the only place that had them and then they even had them on back order. I had them on order from shorty's for over a year and they finally gave up on them.
