A friend asked me to tie some jigs up for him; as he's trying some new techniques for Bluegills.  He asked for jigs in Black, Red, White, and Purple, and to "surprise him".  Lord love a duck, he doesn't know the monster he unleashed.....

I did these, based on the Cat's Meow fly pattern I do.  First time I've done these as a jig.  I know my buddy didn't ask for Olive, but the flies I tie in this pattern flat out catch fish!

I had a flash of inspiration hit a week ago, and decided to do some chironomids as the "Red" jigs.  I love how they turned out!

I decided to do a minnow pattern for the "Purple" jigs.  Purple kiptail, and red metallic embroidery thread for the neck.  I wasn't able to order any candy purple powder paint, so I took Ruby Slipper and some Blue Sapphire, mixed them, and that color is the result!

I took these pics under filtered natural sunlight (high, thin clouds).  They look better in hand than the photos depict!

I like the segmented look of the tie, but could a tube skirt head be used for a more visually replicating chironomid jig ?

Hawn, it's possible. I didn't think to try those. Been my stash of tube jigheads as test blanks for colors.

Personally, yes, I'd go straight for the Olive ones myself. I've been fishing Olive microjigs in a couple different patterns all year.
