Don't Know... I might have put the blade on the other side.JAT

I was copying what i seen on the scrounger. Because with crankbaits they're bill is pointed downward because they float, so since a jig sinks It should be pointed upwards.

Very creative! Another reason the Scrounger lip is up top is to guard the hook point from snags.

The Scrounger lip was cupped, let us know how the flat face lip works.

Apparently, size matters. Few days ago I put a 7/16" round plastic sequin on the hook shank behind a 1/16 ball head for a lip effect but the jig still swam straight with no wobble at all.

Here is a site that helps explain crankbait lip design to help you get the action you want. Crankbait Lip Hydrodynamics

About a year or so ago, i beat my head on a rock for a month (or more :beat-up: ) trying to create a crank jig for trolling in my kayak with the lip coming out the bottom side of the head. I managed to get one design that had a slow, pronounced side to side wobble - picture a 'walk the dog' jig - and then Doc posted the scrounger on here . :p I gave in at that point. haha! I could never figure how to do a top lip like the scrounger... i may have to copy what you are doing... but maybe with some .030 alum. sheet stock.

Also, from what i learned on another project  you may want to try and stick with lighter heads i you are trying to create more wiggle. The size is fine but a lighter weight head (poured in tin possibly) might let the whole package move more. I had so-so results with lead heads and even less movement if i tied too big of a tail - keep the dressing simple like you have it! ;)

BTW - I just saw a new crankin' jig (sorta) design that was articulated in the lastest In-Fish magazine... It had the lip on the BOTTOM!?!? It got me dreaming again. :jig: ahhhahahah Can't think of the name at the moment and the mag is at work.

This one has some decent action but after I read the link on hydrodynamics i posted above I made another one and It swims perfectly the way I wanted it to... I posted it Here . But I have do disagree somewhat with Lighter is always better respectively of coarse... You should use lighter weight jigs under 1/2 ounce but the weight has to be matched with the size and shape of the bill seems to be the key factor. And with skirt material I found I needed to use something slightly stiffer than normal to get the whole skirt to wiggle like a fish... It took some tinkering to get exactly what I wanted so if you want to copy it feel free to ask for more detailed pics of my new ones like this just say so. Oh and thanks :)
