Our guide was not only a great guide but as well a fantastic photographer.
I'm hooked, nothing like hooking a big tarpon.

Sure sounds like a fun time. Nice catches. Trying to cast a fly rod like that would wear me out in no time.

Actually there isn't much to casting it. With the drift currents you can just drop it and it will go out fairly fast. We use a #12 rod and Sage reels.
The bigger fish last pic I fought for about 2 hours, a little over 6 feet long est weight at 110-120 pounds. Nothing really compares to this kind of fishing.
#30 test on a fly, hooked that bigger one and he ran 7 or 8 times each time probably 150 -200 yards each time. Fun fun fun I can hardly wait for May to get here.

2 hour fight?? Damn that would be awesome. Congrats!
Never say, “It’s good enough to catch fish”, because fish eat worms and marshmallows…you want to be better than that. Practice until you can do it right. - Charlie Craven
