large beads for boolie "X"
Hi!

I want to build some very large boolies for some guys traveling to norway. Large pollock, coalies, massive cod, halibut and the like. Halibut plastic jigs sell at 12-25€ each b.t.w...
Got the mold, the hooks, even the props, but brass beads that pass over an 8/0-12/0 VMC barbarian is nothing you find in a fly fishing shop.
With 4-8 weeks of shipping there´s no time for try and error at jann`s etc. too. They usually only display the outer diameter, most of the stuff is supposed to fit on thin wire.

You guys have any idea where to get anything that would pass over such a hook and restist a propeller? doesn´t have to be pretty, its all about experimenting.

Got some thick wired 6/0 Eagle Claws, too, would be better than nothing.

would think that a craft store would have something in the area of necklace making. the beads made to go in hemp necklaces are big in the center. good luck!

I sent a message to Sam Wang, maybe he can help you out. 10-12 day turnaround if he has what you need.

I would suggest a local craft shop as well. I have found some metal beads with large holes at a local shop of mine, but they only say metal on the package.... not what type of metal they actually are made of. There are several different styles and shapes of hematite/iron beads, but most of them have tiny holes.

If you want to try plastic, would guess there are styles of cheap kids jewelry beads that would fit the hooks - not sure how well they would hold up though. Think i would stay away from using glass beads.

What is a boolie? Where would I find a picture of those jigs?

Not until now, thanks!

At the price of a jig like that, I could dremel each one of such beads in shape no props, or have another local craftman do it. Would give competitors something to chew on :-)

Sick skullhead btwIcon14, gotta come up with something like that too one day or the other!

Can't beat smooth metal as a spin bearing surface, but plastic is pretty decent. I actually use mostly fluorescent red plastic beads for my Boolies if fishing in snaggy jig eating areas. Plastic also has a little give allowing forcing past a hook barb without damaging it. Craft stores generally have a selection of plastic beads.
