Bucktails - Stocking up
Recently went through my tackle... i have plenty of 'experimental' jigs to last me through the year i think. haha!! But i do need to stock up on my simple patterns that i am pretty sure will catch some fish if they are willing to play. Buck jigs are an early season favorite of mine.

Top left is 3/8th and top right is 1/16th. Rest are 1/8th. I had decent results putting the zonker under the bucktail during late season last year.

Have been read a few articles now (In-Fish) about using mushroom shaped heads to create a seamless head/neck profile jig. Sure wish i could find some retail in smaller sizes, 1/32-1/8. TC Tackle seems to be off the map???? Can't find the company. Anyway, here are my custom shaped and grinded heads.

Then dressed a few. 1/4th on the bottom right and rest are 1/8th.

Last but not least - my 'standard' tied jig turned expirment. Confused Chill49, i fould which color buck tail flairs on me - i had forgot! This dark brown tail flairs like it is belly fur....... so i tied it in and spun the top portion and trimmed it to the shape of the head as you would trim a spun hair bass bug fly. Big Grin it seems to look ok, maybe better than the thread neck shroom heads?!?! Also put some black/pearl baitfish emulator in the center before i tied the bucktail on...

RE: Bucktails - Stocking up
I forgot all about this thread until today when i got out and had the chance to test the flaired jig. Thank you for the comments everyone!

Rad - That is not the place i was looking for, but good news - I found it finally! And bad news..... i don't see any shroom heads offered. I think i may have the name mixed up, have to go back and dig through my old magazines. TC Tackle has been mentioned in In-Fish before though and there is some interesting jigs to look at, check out the link - TC Tackle Custom Fishing Lures

Now on to the best part..... the flaired/spun-neck jigs work! Big Grin This is only the 2nd time i have been out to the river this year and the 1st i have tried these jigs. Water still moving swift and looks like one of my wife's fancy coffees, but did manage to catch one! The jig has excellent action and can be fished VERY slow. Cool This one was a 1/8th that by the time i was done shapping, it may have lost half its weight. I need to make some bigger ones to actually get farther down in current this fast......
